Design, cultura e sustentabilidade : um estudo sobre uso compartilhado em lavanderias coletivas de edifícios residenciais em Curitiba - PR.

Abstract

Resumo: Esta dissertação de Mestrado aborda o uso compartilhado em lavanderias coletivas de edifícios residenciais, a partir da relação entre fatores culturais, de interação e satisfação do usuário. O uso compartilhado de artefatos vem ganhando notoriedade em diversos países como alternativa para a redução do consumo, a exemplo de iniciativas como car-sharing, bike-sharing e co-housing. No entanto, nota-se certa resistência em alguns grupos sociais quanto ao compartilhamento, por envolver relações de apego, individualismo, obrigatoriedade de interação entre indivíduos e fraco sentimento de propriedade em relação ao artefato, que leva a ações de vandalismo e menor cuidado durante sua utilização, dentre outros fatores. No uso de máquinas de lavar roupas, principal artefato utilizado no processo de lavagem das roupas, essas preocupações evidenciam-se também por questões relacionadas à higiene e privacidade. Embora difundida na Europa e Estados Unidos, a lavanderia coletiva residencial é relativamente pouco encontrada em edifícios de Curitiba, apesar do fenômeno de redução da área interna de apartamentos e da crescente oferta de outros serviços disponibilizados na área de uso comum, como home office, espaço gourmet, brinquedoteca, etc. Sob esta perspectiva, o objetivo geral desta pesquisa é a investigação acerca da satisfação do usuário no compartilhamento do uso de máquinas de lavar roupas e serviços de lavanderia coletiva, bem como sua relação com fatores culturais, além do delineamento de recomendações de design que promovam o compartilhamento deste tipo de artefato e serviços. A pesquisa segue uma abordagem metodológica predominantemente qualitativa e de natureza interpretativa. Os procedimentos de pesquisa incluem entrevistas semiestruturadas, questionários, observação e análise de sistemas de lavanderias coletivas em edifícios residenciais de Curitiba / PR, com vistas a investigar possíveis barreiras ou facilitadores que dificultem ou promovam o compartilhamento nestes espaços. Os resultados da pesquisa apontam para a necessidade de se compreender com maior profundidade as motivações culturais que permeiam o uso compartilhado, tanto em suas formas de uso quanto no design dos artefatos em si e serviços relacionados, e suas implicações na satisfação do usuário. A pesquisa também delineia algumas recomendações que visam contribuir para o desenvolvimento de sistemas (de produtos e serviços) voltados à promoção do uso compartilhado em lavanderias coletivas.

Abstract: This Master's thesis discusses shared use in collective laundries of residential buildings, from the relationship between cultural factors, interaction and user satisfaction. Shared use of artefacts is gaining notoriety in several countries as an alternative to reduce consumption, for example, in initiatives as car sharing, bike sharing and co-housing. However, there is a certain level of resistance in some social groups regarding sharing because it involves attachment relationships, individualism, mandatory interaction between individuals and weak sense of ownership over the artefact, which leads to actions such as vandalism and little care during use, among other factors. In the shared use of washing machines, main device used in the process doing the laundry, these concerns are evidenced also by issues related to hygiene and privacy. Although widespread in Europe and the United States, the collective laundry in residential buildings is relatively unusual in Curitiba buildings, despite the phenomenon of reduction in the inner area of the apartments and increasing availability of other services in common area, such as home office, gourmet room, toy room, etc. In this perspective, the goal of this research is the investigation about user satisfaction on sharing washing machines and services of collective laundry, as well its relationship with cultural factors and the formulation of design recommendations to promote the sharing of products and services for collective laundries. The research follows a predominantly qualitative and interpretive approach. The research tools include semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, observation and analysis of collective laundries systems in residential buildings of Curitiba-PR, in order to investigate possible barriers of facilitators that hinder or promote sharing in these places. The results point to the need of understanding more deeply the cultural motivations that underlie the shared use - in its forms of use, the design of the artefacts itself and related services -, and its implications on user satisfaction. The research also outlines some recommendations to contribute for the development of systems (of products and services) aimed at the promotion of shared use in collective laundries.
